Agartala, April 17, 2025: Hazrapara, a small remote village under Kakrachhara ADC Village in the Mungiakami block of Teliamura, Khowai district has recently witnessed the devastating effects of untimely rains.
The village, home to about forty to fifty families, primarily relies on yam farming for its livelihood. This year, due to unseasonal rainfall, yam crops have suffered near-total destruction, plunging the village into uncertainty. With food and basic necessities becoming a challenge, the people of Hazrapara are facing severe hardships.
However, amidst this adversity shines the story of a courageous schoolgirl from Hazrapara, who is defying the odds to support her family. The unnamed student has taken up the age-old tradition of making pakhara to help sustain her household.
Balancing her studies and family responsibilities, she showcases resilience that has become a beacon of hope for many. Her initiative involves sourcing yarn from the market, crafting traditional pacharas, and selling them.
In response to the queries of reporters, she shared her struggles and determination. “The yield of yam has not been good this year, resulting in hardship in the family. I am making this pachara in between my studies so that I can collect some money and help my family.”
She further added, “The price of yarn from the market has increased. As a result, the profit that was made earlier is no longer there. However, I can help my family at least a little with whatever I earn, which is a great achievement for me.”

Her initiative has sparked a sentiment of hope and resilience in the community, proving that even small steps can lead to meaningful change.
