Assam: MOS Pabitra Margherita Engages With Indian Diaspora In Malaysia To Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Guwahati, Apr 19: Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, interacted with the Indian community in Malaysia on Saturday, acknowledging their significant role in strengthening India-Malaysia relations. Margherita recognized the contributions of the Assamese and Manipuri diaspora in Malaysia, which are closely tied to his native state of Assam.

In a post on X, Margherita shared, “Interacted with the vibrant Indian community in Malaysia, including members of the Assamese and Manipuri diaspora. Their contributions to strengthening India-Malaysia ties are noteworthy. Always a pleasure to connect with our extended family abroad.”

During his visit, Margherita also held talks with YB Kulasegaran Murugeson, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) in Kuala Lumpur. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in law and institutional reforms.

Additionally, Margherita met with leaders from the business community in Malaysia, including representatives from the Consortium of Indian Industries in Malaysia (CIIM) and the Malaysia-India Business Council (MIBC), emphasizing the growing economic and business links between the two countries.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that Margherita is leading a delegation to participate in the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair on April 18-19 in Kuala Lumpur, as part of the ASEAN-India Tourism Professionals Exchange Programme 2025.
