Guwahati, Apr 19: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police seized narcotics worth Rs 71 crore in two separate operations conducted in Kamrup district on Friday evening. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the cases.
According to STF officials, the first operation was launched based on specific intelligence about a narcotics consignment being transported from a neighbouring state. A vehicle bearing registration number AS-01DA-9276 was intercepted in the Amingaon area. Upon searching the vehicle, officials recovered 40 soap boxes of heroin hidden in secret compartments beneath the driver and co-driver’s footboard. The total weight of the seized heroin was 520 grams, valued at approximately Rs 4 crore.
The driver, identified as Nazrul Hussain alias Ali Hussain (22), a resident of Loknathpur under Dholai Police Station in Cachar district, was arrested.
In a second operation, also conducted in the Amingaon area, STF officials intercepted a truck suspected of carrying synthetic drugs. A total of 2.70 lakh Yaba tablets containing methamphetamine were recovered from the vehicle. The seized tablets are estimated to be worth Rs 67 crore.
The truck driver, identified as Nur Islam (34), a resident of Golibandha village under Sarthebari Police Station in Bajali district, was taken into custody.
Both operations were led by STF Chief Partha Sarathi Mahanta, with assistance from Additional SP (STF) Kalyan Pathak.
