BJP leader and Sagolband MLA RK Imo on Saturday said that a popular government is essential in a democratic system. He made the remark while speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the inauguration of a girls’ hostel under the MOBC department.

Imo informed that a delegation of seven BJP MLAs had recently called on Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, urging him to intensify the recovery of illegal arms, particularly in the hill areas of the strife-torn state.

He said the delegation also appealed to the Governor to speed up the peace process by facilitating dialogue between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. The MLAs further urged the Governor to take appropriate action against those involved in provocative activities targeting various communities.

The BJP MLA also lauded the Governor’s appeal to the public for the voluntary surrender of looted and illegally held weapons, terming it a positive step towards restoring peace in the state.
