Agartala, April 19, 2025: An important meeting of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Minority Department was held on Saturday at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan under the leadership of Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha. The meeting saw the presence of senior party leader and MLA Sudip Roy Barman along with key members of the Minority Department.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Sudip Roy Barman made a strong appeal to safeguard the Constitution of India, highlighting growing threats to democratic values. “It is the constitutional responsibility of every citizen of the country to protect the Constitution,” he asserted. “Those who are insulting the framer of the Constitution, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, believe in Manusmriti. Their thinking is still confined to the Middle Ages.”

Barman strongly criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that his controversial remarks in Parliament about Dr. Ambedkar reflect a deeper disregard for constitutional values. “Home Minister Amit Shah got the courage to make ugly comments about Dr. Ambedkar in Parliament because the BJP does not respect the Constitution of the country,” he said. “The current ruling party is curtailing the democratic rights that this Constitution has given to the people.”

Emphasizing unity and civic duty, Barman called upon citizens to stand firm against divisive forces. “The people of the country must come forward to protect the Constitution. It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that disputes in the name of religion and regional conflicts do not occur,” he urged. “The common people of the country must participate in the fight to protect the Constitution.”

The meeting ended with a call for greater awareness and mobilization against attempts to undermine the values enshrined in the Constitution.
