Agartala, April 19, 2025: In a historic move to elevate Tripura’s tourism profile, the state government is set to introduce a seaplane service for the first time. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury made the announcement following a high-level meeting at the Secretariat’s conference hall in Agartala city on Friday.
“Tripura’s tourism is going to be more colorful and attractive in the coming days,” said Chowdhury. “For the first time in the history of the state, a seaplane service is being introduced — a special aircraft that can land and take off from water bodies.”
He informed that the state’s transport and tourism departments have taken joint initiatives to implement the project. The primary objective, according to the minister, is to enhance accessibility for both domestic and international tourists to the state’s picturesque aquatic destinations like Narikel Kunja and Chobimura.
“This service will make it easier for tourists to reach various water tourism spots in a short span of time. We believe this initiative will give a new dimension to Tripura’s tourism,” Chowdhury added.
Officials and experts are optimistic about the economic impact of the move. “Tripura is going to strengthen its position on the state tourism map through this historic step. Experts believe that by harnessing the state’s rich tourism potential, the path to economic development will become smoother,” the minister said.
The proposed seaplane service is expected to significantly boost tourist footfall and contribute to regional growth, marking a new chapter in Tripura’s journey toward becoming a vibrant travel destination.
