Itanagar, Apr 21: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated a Skill Development Centre in Menchuka, Shi-Yomi district, on Saturday. Established by the Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavna, the centre aims to equip local youth and women with computer skills to enhance employment opportunities and promote self-reliance.
The centre, featuring modern computer infrastructure and skilled instructors, will offer courses in typing, Microsoft Office, and basic computer operations. It is part of an effort to bridge the digital divide in remote regions like Menchuka and enable residents to adapt to a technology-driven economy.
During the inauguration, CM Khandu emphasized that the initiative goes beyond just technical skills. He highlighted its role in building confidence, independence, and creating new opportunities for the local community. Khandu also commended the Indian Army for its role in not only safeguarding the borders but also contributing to the region’s development.
Local residents welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a long-awaited opportunity for skill development, especially for women. Many expressed hope that the centre would help reduce unemployment and create new entrepreneurial opportunities.
The Skill Development Centre aligns with the National Policy on Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, reinforcing the commitment to inclusive growth by both state and central governments.
As part of Operation Sadbhavna, the Indian Army has been running several projects in border areas to strengthen civil-military relations. This new initiative reflects their ongoing commitment to uplifting marginalized communities in underdeveloped regions.
With digital literacy being increasingly essential across all sectors, the centre is expected to play a pivotal role in transforming the socio-economic landscape of Menchuka and surrounding areas.
