Agartala, April 21, 2025: The air in Tripura reverberated with the spirit of tradition and unity as Garia Puja, the sacred tribal festival symbolizing culture and prosperity was celebrated with great devotion across the state, including several locations in Agartala city.

Once observed primarily by the tribal communities, Garia Puja has now evolved into a unifying festival that bridges castes and sub-castes. “This puja, which was once confined to specific areas is now performed with full enthusiasm from cities to villages,” said Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar. “It has become universal,” he added, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the celebration.

Today, various clubs and organizations in the capital city organized Garia Puja events at spots including Advisor Chowmuhani. Devotees began worshipping early in the morning, offering prayers for good health and locality’s welfare. The traditional fair associated with the puja also drew large crowds, creating a festive atmosphere.

To mark the occasion, Mayor Majumdar visited Ward No. 19 and distributed rice and pakhara (a traditional food item) among the local people. “Garia Baba is a symbol of culture, tradition, and well-being. This puja is organized every year for the prosperity of all in society,” he remarked while interacting with residents.

With relatives being specially invited and prayers echoing from homes and temples, Garia Puja reaffirmed its place as a vibrant symbol of unity and cultural pride in Tripura.
