A one-day awareness and sensitization programme on the Juvenile Justice System and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, was held today at Wabagai Higher Secondary School, targeting teachers from across Kakching district.
The programme was organized by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Kakching, under the Department of Social Welfare, in collaboration with the District Administration, Kakching.
Key officials present at the event included Mayengbam Bhorot, Principal of Wabagai Higher Secondary School; Darngam Khaling, Member Secretary of the Child Welfare Committee, Tengnoupal; and M. Robindro, Legal-cum-Probation Officer, DCPU Kakching.
Darngam Khaling served as a resource person and delivered a session on the Juvenile Justice System, while M. Robindro spoke on the provisions and significance of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. Both experts engaged in interactive discussions, responding to queries from the participating teachers.
The programme began with a keynote address by Gajoo Rajkumari, District Child Protection Officer, DCPU Kakching, who outlined the objectives and core message of the initiative — to empower educators with knowledge of child protection laws and enhance their role in safeguarding children’s rights.
