Agartala, April 21, 2025: In a remarkable initiative towards wildlife protection, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Silchar Post under Lumding Division, Northeast Frontier Railway, recovered and rescued 450 live frogs during a special drive at Silchar Railway Station on Sunday morning.
Around 08:00 hrs, RPF officials discovered three unclaimed bags lying unattended near Platform No. 1. Upon inspection, each bag was found to contain approximately 150 live frogs, bringing the total to 450.
“No individual came forward to claim the bags despite repeated announcements and inquiries,” said the Chief Public Relations Officer of NF Railway, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, in a press release. “Acting swiftly and responsibly, the RPF team ensured that the frogs were safely handed over to the Divisional Forest Officer, Barak Valley Wildlife Division, for proper rehabilitation.”
Officials stated that the operation underlines the increasing role of the RPF in not only protecting passengers and railway property but also in safeguarding wildlife and maintaining environmental balance.
“This incident reflects our commitment to ecological protection,” Sharma emphasized. “Northeast Frontier Railway will continue such vigilant drives and work closely with environmental authorities to uphold our responsibility towards nature.”
The rescued frogs are currently in the custody of the Barak Valley Wildlife Division, where they will receive necessary care and further action as per wildlife protection norms.
