Agartala, April 21, 2025: In a proud moment for Tripura, Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma and Ganganagar Block in Dhalai district have been conferred with the prestigious Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration 2024. The awards were presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Civil Services Day celebration held at Vigyan Bhavan on Monday.
Tarit Kanti Chakma, the District Magistrate and Collector of Gomati, received the award under the category of ‘Holistic Development of Districts’, recognizing the district’s significant strides in comprehensive development initiatives. Applauding the achievement, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha took to social media to congratulate Chakma, calling it “a proud moment for the state.”
Ganganagar Block of Dhalai district was honoured in the ‘Aspirational Blocks Programme’ category. Dhalai District Magistrate and Collector Saju Wahid A accepted the award on behalf of the people of Ganganagar.
A visual presentation showcased Ganganagar’s remarkable progress—over 2,200 homes were connected to Self-Help Group (SHG) networks, all SHGs were granted revolving funds, 1,600 houses were constructed, and 100% supplementary nutrition was provided to pregnant women. The block also achieved notable success in implementing digital boards and e-learning platforms.
According to a PIB press release, the Prime Minister’s Awards scheme aims to recognize innovative and impactful administrative work that contributes significantly to public welfare. For the 2024 awards, a total of 1,588 nominations were received, with only 14 awardees selected after rigorous evaluation under three categories: Holistic Development of Districts, Aspirational Blocks Programme, and Innovation.
Each award includes a trophy, a scroll, and a financial incentive of ₹20 lakh to support the continuation or scaling up of public welfare initiatives.
