The Government of Manipur is all set to observe Khongjom Day on April 23 at the Khongjom War Memorial in Khebaching, Thoubal district. The solemn event commemorates the valour and sacrifice of Manipuri heroes who laid down their lives in the historic Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891.
Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, will grace the occasion as Chief Guest, while Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh will preside over the function.
The observance will begin with a Sankirtan performance by artistes from the Manipur State Kala Akademi. The Governor will lead the floral tributes at the Khongjom War Memorial and the statue of Major Paona Brajabashi. A traditional offering of Tarpon will also be held at the Khongjom River in honour of the fallen heroes.
As part of the cultural segment, Rup Mahal Theatre will present a drama titled Khongjom Lal, along with other commemorative programmes.
To facilitate public participation, the State Government has arranged special transportation services from Imphal to Khongjom Khebaching. Buses will depart at 6:30 am sharp from various locations across Imphal, including MST Complex, Koirengei, Chingmeirong, Porompat, Tera Bazar, Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School, and the Directorate of Art & Culture.
The government has called upon the public to join in paying respectful homage to the brave hearts who fought to protect the sovereignty of the motherland.
