Kohima, Apr 21: Nagaland maintained their perfect record in Group H of the Swami Vivekananda U20 Men’s National Football Championship, securing a 1-0 victory over Bengal on Monday at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Ground. This marks their second consecutive win in the tournament.
Earlier in the day, Haryana kept their quarter-final hopes alive with a dominant 4-1 win over Madhya Pradesh. With two matches played, Nagaland sits at the top of Group H with six points and needs just a point from their final match against Haryana to progress. Haryana, with four points, must win to move forward.
Bengal, with one point, and Madhya Pradesh, with no points, remain in the race for qualification. The match between Nagaland and Bengal was settled by a 13th-minute goal from Ghughe Chishi, assisted by captain S Ayenmongba.
Haryana’s 4-1 victory over Madhya Pradesh included goals from Yatin, Yaman Sheoran, and Anni, with an own goal from Sameer Warkade securing the win after Madhya Pradesh pulled one back through Rohit Yadav.
