Security forces arrested four active members of the proscribed militant outfit PREPAK (Pro) in separate operations across Imphal East district, police said on Tuesday. A significant cache of arms, explosives, and communication equipment was also recovered during unrelated raids.
Three members of PREPAK (Pro), including a woman, were apprehended on Monday at Ngakhapat Adventure Kharok. According to police, they were involved in the kidnapping of two individuals for ransom near Naorem Birahari College in Imphal East. Security personnel recovered a .32 pistol with a magazine loaded with five rounds, six mobile phones, and two two-wheelers from the trio.
In a separate operation on Sunday, another PREPAK (Pro) cadre, identified as 22-year-old Khundrakpam Katho Singh, was arrested from Sawombung area in the same district.
Meanwhile, unrelated operations in Tengnoupal district on Saturday led to the recovery of a large quantity of explosives and communication gear. Police seized four 152mm metal IEDs, 18 plastic 76mm IEDs, seven Motorola communication sets, and combat uniforms from Yangoubung and T Bongmol villages.
In another operation conducted on Monday at the foothills of Keirao Wangkhem Village near the TB Hospital in Imphal East, authorities recovered an arsenal that included one 7.62 SLR rifle with a magazine, a 12-bore single-barrel gun, a sniper rifle with a telescope, two 9mm pistols with magazines, a .22 pistol with magazine, ammunition, a radio wireless set, four bulletproof plates, and other materials.
