Agartala, April 22, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday launched a unique green initiative on the occasion of Earth Day—introducing QR codes for flora at Amtali High School in West Tripura. The move aims to foster botanical awareness among students by enabling them to access instant information about trees on their school premises through QR codes.

Speaking at a program marking the inauguration of the school’s newly constructed building, Dr. Saha highlighted that the initiative is a step towards connecting education with environmental consciousness. “The Ministry of Education has introduced the ‘QR codes for flora’ initiative to observe Earth Day. With a simple scan, students can learn about a tree’s name, species, characteristics, and benefits,” he said.

The chief minister, who also holds the education portfolio, stressed that the drive will be active from April 22 to 30, during which schools will develop a digital catalogue of their flora. He said the initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of maintaining ecological balance to ensure a livable planet.

Dr. Saha further emphasized his government’s commitment to strengthening the state’s education infrastructure. “We are determined to provide quality education through the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), the ‘Vidya Setu’ progress report, and smart classes in 854 schools,” he noted.

Highlighting the government’s substantial investment in educational infrastructure, Dr. Saha revealed that ₹264 crore has been earmarked for the construction and renovation of school buildings in the 2025–26 financial year. “Between 2014-15 and 2024-25, ₹153 crore was spent on building 44 new schools, and additional funds under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan are being used to develop school facilities,” he added.
