Itanagar, Apr 23: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Tuesday shared a message on social media after attending a Rongali Bihu celebration organized by the Assamese Association Itanagar at his official residence.
Mein expressed pleasure at witnessing a vibrant Bihu Husori performance and recalled his long-standing association with the festival. “Celebrating Rongali Bihu with the Assamese community has always been a cherished experience. Over the years, our cultural bond has grown stronger, rooted in shared traditions and mutual respect,” he stated.
He also shared memories of his first invitation to a Bihu celebration in 1997–98, extended by then Under Secretary of the Legislative Assembly, R. Deka, during Mein’s tenure as Speaker. Since then, he said, participating in the festival has become a heartfelt tradition.
Highlighting the significance of the festival, Mein noted that Bihu is more than a celebration, describing it as a reflection of collective heritage that strengthens community ties. He also mentioned the cultural significance of the Gamosa, which he wore during the recent Sangken festival.
Mein commended the Assamese community in Arunachal Pradesh for preserving and promoting their cultural heritage. He concluded by encouraging unity in diversity ahead of the birth centenary of cultural icon Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, to be observed on 8th September.
