Guwahati, Apr 23: Assam Police have successfully rescued a one-year-old girl who was sold by her step-grandfather for Rs 5,000 nearly 11 months ago. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

Mrinal Deka, Deputy Commissioner (East) of Guwahati Police, stated that the arrests were made on charges of selling and purchasing a minor. The child was recovered during a police operation.

The incident came to light when the child’s mother filed a complaint on April 21, claiming that her stepfather had taken the child on May 30, 2024, under the pretext of seeking medical treatment while her husband was away. Investigations are ongoing.
