Gangtok, Apr 23:The Government of Sikkim has launched a statewide Emergency Helpline System and enhanced patient support services as part of efforts to strengthen emergency medical response and healthcare accessibility across the state.

The Emergency Helpline System, developed by the Health & Family Welfare Department, became operational on April 22. The system provides real-time information on ambulance availability, access to the nearest healthcare facilities, and advance alerts to hospitals when patients are en route, allowing for timely preparation and response during emergencies. The helpline numbers are 90024 33135 and 97493 41334.

The helpline will also serve as a grievance redressal and feedback platform. Citizens can report operational issues such as staff shortages, water supply disruptions, and facility-related concerns at various health centres, including District Hospitals, Community Health Centres, Primary Health Centres, and Sub-Centres. Reported issues will be addressed by the relevant authorities.

In addition to the helpline, Help Desk and ROGI Mitra (Patient Care Coordinator) services have been introduced at STNM Hospital in Sochakgang. These services aim to assist patients and their attendants by guiding them to departments, wards, and diagnostic units, supporting admission and discharge procedures, and facilitating communication with hospital staff. ROGI Mitras have been deployed across all hospital floors to provide assistance and ensure patients receive timely support.

The new services are intended to enhance the patient experience and ensure that no individual feels unattended in the healthcare system. Authorities have encouraged the public to utilize the helpline and patient support services and to help raise awareness, especially in remote and rural areas.

The initiative is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and service delivery.
