Agartala, April 23, 2025: CPI(M) Politburo member and Leader of Opposition in the Tripura Legislative Assembly (TLA) Jitendra Chaudhury on Wednesday strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir calling it a direct assault on the nation’s security and stability.
In a stern statement during an interview, Chaudhury said, “The manner in which this attack was carried out is extremely worrying and condemnable. It poses a serious challenge to the overall security of the country.”
Referring to the period of relative calm following the conversion of Jammu and Kashmir into a Union Territory, he said, “After Pulwama, we did not witness any major terrorist activities for quite some time. But this resurgence of terrorism is deeply concerning and proves that the menace is far from eradicated.”
He emphasized that terrorism cannot be rooted out by military action alone. “Killing a few terrorists is not enough. The roots of terrorism lie within and are also being fuelled from external sources. We must seek a political solution,” Chaudhury asserted.
He further called for unity among citizens, saying, “To maintain peace, there has to be a consensus between the people of Kashmir and peace-loving citizens across India.”
Terming the attack as one that strikes at the heart of the nation’s stability, he urged the Centre to act swiftly. “This is not just an attack on Kashmir, but on the entire country’s security and peace. The central government must take strict and effective steps to ensure such incidents do not recur,” he added.
Expressing condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured, Chaudhury concluded, “The safety of the common people must be the government’s top priority. Strong and decisive action against militant activities is the need of the hour.”
