Kohima, Apr 25: The Nagaland government has initiated a renewed push to strengthen Aadhaar infrastructure and improve enrollment rates among children aged 0 to 5 years across the state.

As part of this effort, Commissioner K.S. Anden Konyak handed over 24 fingerprint scanners and 24 smartphones to the Department of Economics and Statistics during a ceremony held at the Commissioner’s Office Conference Hall in Kohima on Tuesday. The equipment aims to enhance the reach and efficiency of Aadhaar registration services statewide.

Commissioner Konyak emphasized the importance of early Aadhaar registration and regular updates, stating that each district is equipped with functional enrollment centres and trained operators. He also highlighted the need for public awareness on updating Aadhaar every ten years.

Aadhaar services in Nagaland are coordinated through the Office of the Commissioner in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), with support from banks, Post Offices, and other authorized agencies.

To address gaps in coverage, a special Aadhaar enrollment campaign is scheduled to launch in Wokha, Peren, and Phek districts, which have reported low registration rates. The campaign is part of a broader strategy to ensure universal access to identity documentation, which is essential for accessing government schemes and benefits.
