Agartala, April 24, 2025: In a remarkable display of determination and academic excellence, 26 out of 30 students from the ONGC Super 30 Centre in Agartala have successfully cleared the JEE Mains 2025 examination, achieving an impressive 86.7% success rate. This educational initiative, launched in 2021 by ONGC Corporation in collaboration with CSRL, is aimed at nurturing engineering aspirants from underprivileged backgrounds.
“Since its inception, the Agartala centre has supported more than 100 students, offering them a pathway to premier institutions like IITs and NITs. These students, who once saw engineering as a distant dream, are now within reach of India’s top technical institutes,” said Biswajit Dasgupta, Chief Project Manager at CSRL while briefing media personnel at Agartala Press Club on Thursday.
The ONGC Super 30 Agartala program offers 11 months of fully residential, free coaching to boys and girls from economically challenged families, specifically targeting those with an annual income below ₹4 lakhs. The selection process is stringent, comprising a written test and an academic interview to ensure that the most deserving students are chosen.
He also said “Among the 30 students from economically weaker sections (EWS), five were specially brought in from the northeastern states of Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.”
Dasgupta highlighted the program’s success over the past three years: 2021-22: 30 students enrolled, 4 made it to IITs, and 17 to NITs; 2022-23: 30 students enrolled, 4 to IITs, 2 to IISER/NIISER, 16 to NITs; and 2023-24: 30 students enrolled, 4 to IITs, 1 to IISER, 20 to NITs.
So far, 88 students have been placed in prestigious institutions including IITs (12), IISER/NIISER (3), NITs (53) and other state/central universities (20).
Apart from Tripura, ONGC operates similar Super 30 centres across India, including Sivasagar, Srinagar, Kangra, Jalgaon, and Golaghat, each providing a crucial platform for students from marginalized communities to pursue higher education.
“The transformation we witness in these students is truly inspiring. It’s not just about academic success but about changing lives, families, and communities through education,” added Dasgupta.
