Agartala, April 24, 2025: A deeply troubling incident has been reported in Tripura after a father has submitted a formal complaint against a nurse at Gomati District Hospital alleging misbehavior and negligence during the emergency admission of his five-year-old daughter.

According to the complaint filed with the District Magistrate and Chief Medical Officer, Jakir Miah of Khupilang, Udaipur rushed his ailing daughter to the hospital around 2 AM on April 19, 2025 after she suddenly fell ill. The attending doctor promptly advised that the child be admitted. However, what followed has shocked many.

“When I went to the children’s ward, I found the door closed and no nurse in sight. I knocked and tried to open the door. Nurse Monowara Begum came out, visibly angry and began abusing me in foul language,” Zakir wrote in his complaint.

Quoting the nurse’s reaction, he added, “She said, ‘Don’t we have the right to sleep? Why are you disturbing us at this hour? Should you admit the child so late at night?’”

Despite the nurse’s initial resistance, the child was eventually admitted following the father’s insistence. Zakir expressed dismay over the conduct of the health staff. “Do government hospital workers receive salaries to sleep during duty hours? Is this the treatment we should expect during emergencies?” he questioned.

Sources within the hospital allege that this is not an isolated incident. “Several parents in the pediatric ward have faced similar behavior from this nurse, but they stay silent out of fear for their children’s treatment,” one source claimed.

Jakir has demanded a proper investigation into the matter and urged authorities to take strict action. “I have submitted a detailed written complaint. Now it is up to the District Magistrate and the Chief Medical Officer to ensure justice and restore public faith,” he stated.

All eyes are now on the hospital administration and district authorities as residents await a response to the troubling allegations.
