Governor General Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh Attends Mizoram University’s Silver Jubilee Celebration

Aizawl, Apr 25: General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), the Governor of Mizoram and Chief Rector of Mizoram University (MZU), attended the Foundation Day-cum-Silver Jubilee celebration of MZU on Friday as the Chief Guest. The event took place at the MZU Auditorium, with Ambassador (Retd) Shri Gurjit Singh serving as the Guest of Honour.

 

In his address, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh praised the university’s 25 years of progress, recognizing the contributions of faculty, staff, and students. He highlighted MZU’s significant role in promoting higher education in Mizoram and the broader North East region. He further applauded the university’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, its picturesque campus, and its academic strength.

 

The Governor also noted the university’s achievements, including its ‘A’ Grade accreditation by NAAC and consistent rankings among India’s top 100 higher education institutions by NIRF since 2016. MZU is also ranked among the top 30 universities in the country by India Today and stands as one of the top two Central Universities in North East India. He highlighted the publication of 2,234 research papers and 868 books, along with the university’s high teacher-to-student ratio of 1:10, and the fact that 90% of faculty members hold PhDs.

Ambassador (Retd) Gurjit Singh emphasized Mizoram’s strategic importance under India’s Act East Policy, highlighting MZU’s potential to play a crucial role in regional and national initiatives.

The ceremony included a welcome address by Vice Chancellor Prof. D.C. Deka, followed by a presentation of the year-long Silver Jubilee celebration plan by Prof. Lalnuntluanga, Controller of Examinations and Convenor of the Programme Committee. A moment of reflection was observed in remembrance of Pope Francis and victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.

The event also featured the unveiling of the newly designed Silver Jubilee logo and a short video celebrating the university’s history and accomplishments. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from University Registrar Prof. Lalnundanga.

The Silver Jubilee celebrations will continue until April 25, 2026, featuring a series of academic, cultural, and community events, including seminars, exhibitions, tree plantation drives, music festivals, and various outreach initiatives.

Mizoram University, established in 2001, has grown to include 37 departments and 10 Schools of Study, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs. It serves students from over 20 states across India and around 100 international students.
