Sikkim: District Officials Visit Road Closure Site At Bop; Initiate Immediate Action

Gangtok, Apr 25: District Collector Anant Jain, along with key officials, including the Superintendent of Police, Mangan, SDM Chungthang, SDPO Chungthang, SHO Lachung/Chungthang, Deputy Director (DDMA), ADC (Dev.) Chungthang, and Pipon Lachung, visited the road closure site at Bop along the Chungthang-Lachung road on Friday to assess the situation.

The District Collector immediately directed the 86/115 GREF to mobilize machinery for clearing the road blockage. Additionally, SDM Chungthang has been tasked with coordinating with local construction companies to expedite the restoration of road connectivity.

Tourists stranded in Lachen and Lachung have been advised to remain in their hotels, with necessary accommodation and food arrangements in place. No casualties or medical emergencies have been reported.

The Power Department has been instructed to prioritize the restoration of electricity supply in Chungthang, Lachen, and Lachung.

The District Collector will continue to monitor the situation, with plans to visit Leema on Saturday once the Bop road is cleared. A review of the road conditions at Munshithang will also take place during tomorrow’s field inspection.

The District Administration is focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents and tourists in the region.
