Agartala, April 26, 2025: In a significant recognition of its dedicated service and commendable achievements, the 28 Assam Rifles was awarded the prestigious Unit Citation by the Governor of Tripura on April 25.
The battalion has emerged as a key force in the state’s fight against narcotics, having conducted more than 60 successful operations. These efforts resulted in the seizure of contraband valued at over Rs 300 crore, delivering a serious blow to drug trafficking networks and advancing the Government of India’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
Beyond its operational successes, the unit has also distinguished itself through humanitarian efforts. During the devastating monsoon floods of August 2024, 28 Assam Rifles played a vital role under Operation JAL RAHAT, carrying out timely relief and rescue operations to support affected communities.
The battalion has further extended its outreach by organizing a series of medical camps in remote and underserved regions, ensuring essential healthcare reaches those in need. Its ongoing civic action initiatives aimed at uplifting marginalized populations exemplify the spirit of civil-military cooperation and people-first soldiering.
The Unit Citation stands as a testament to the battalion’s unwavering commitment to national service, both on and off the battlefield.
