Guwahati, Apr 26: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the arrest of six Bangladeshi nationals who were attempting to illegally cross into the state. The apprehensions were made on Friday by Assam’s Sribhumi Police, which is conducting an ongoing crackdown on unauthorized border crossings.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Md Monir, Md Ahidul Seikh, Azizul Seikh, Rokiya Bibi, Mh. Ahashan Ullah, and Md Haresh. Sarma emphasized Assam’s zero-tolerance approach to border infiltration, stating that all six individuals were immediately arrested and pushed back.

In a post on social media platform X, Sarma stated, “Assam stands firm! No infiltration will be tolerated,” highlighting the swift action of Sribhumi Police in preventing the infiltration attempt.

This arrest follows a similar operation last week, where a joint team of the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and intelligence agencies apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, at Agartala Railway Station. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects entered India illegally and were planning to travel further into southern India via train. Authorities believe this movement could be part of a larger human trafficking or illegal immigration network.

The arrested individuals are currently being interrogated at the Agartala GRP Police Station, where a case has been filed. Authorities are continuing their efforts to uncover the full scope of the illegal network.
