Agartala, April 26, 2025: In two separate operations, the Government Railway Police (GRP) recovered 14 kilograms of ganja and apprehended five Indian touts along with a Bangladeshi national from Agartala railway station, officials said on Saturday.

Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of GRP Agartala, informed that the arrests were made based on secret intelligence inputs. “We had received information that five Indian touts and one Bangladeshi national were planning to leave for other states through Agartala railway station. Acting on that tip-off, GRP and BSF personnel conducted an ambush operation,” said Das.

He added, “All six individuals were arrested upon their arrival at the station. During interrogation, the Bangladeshi national confessed to having entered Tripura illegally, aided by the five Indian touts.”

A specific case has been registered against the accused, and further investigations are underway to ascertain the extent of the smuggling network.

Separately, Das reported that an anti-drug operation was also carried out at Agartala railway station on Friday. “In the course of the operation, we seized 14 kilograms of ganja. However, no arrests have been made in connection with this seizure so far,” he said.

Police authorities emphasized that operations against drug trafficking and illegal infiltration would continue with increased vigilance.
