Agartala, April 28, 2025: In a major crackdown on negligence in schools, Director of Elementary Education Nripendra Chandra Sharma led a surprise inspection across Sepahijala district on the fourth Saturday. A team of eight officers, including Joint Director Rakesh Debbarma, Deputy Directors Rudradeep Nath and Pradip Sarkar, and all OSDs from the Directorate, participated in the operation.

The surprise visits caught Headmasters and teachers off guard, as it was a designated holiday for government offices. According to official sources, show-cause notices will be issued to as many as 18 headmasters and teachers. Additionally, action is also being initiated against two Inspectors of Schools.

In a stern move, the salaries of 10 teachers are being withheld for dereliction of duty. Director Sharma himself visited the farthest blocks, inspecting seven schools where gross negligence was observed involving 11 teachers and one Inspector. In three other cases, immediate pay suspension orders were issued.

During the drive, the inspection team covered 23 schools across the district. Among the irregularities found were unauthorized teacher absences, poor maintenance of school cleanliness, lapses in the PM Poshan scheme, and non-implementation of class-appropriate teaching methods.

Joint Director Rakesh Debbarma, who visited Jampuijala, reported negligence by five teachers in schools under his inspection.

It is noteworthy that Director Sharma has been actively conducting regular surprise inspections to uplift the standards of education across the state. Sources confirm that similar inspection drives will continue in the coming days under his leadership.
