Deputy Commissioner of Senapati, Mamoni Doley, IAS, chaired a follow-up meeting on the ‘Clean Senapati River Campaign’ on Monday at the DC Conference Hall, Senapati. The meeting was attended by officials including Rang David Kung, ADM Senapati; Adahrii Maheo, CEO/ADC Senapati; P.P. Ronald, Project Director, DRDA Senapati; Thangkhochon Haokip, ADSP Senapati; along with CSOs, town committee leaders, and youth representatives from various localities.
Discussions focused on key agendas such as the construction of waste collection centres, rationalisation of waste collection routes, enforcement against river pollution, banning single-use plastics, and forming a task force for the campaign.
Welcoming the participants, Mamoni Doley praised the efforts of officials and CSOs involved in the campaign. She noted the installation of barricades at major black spots like under the Senapati bridge and directed village leaders to halt illegal constructions along the riverside. Regular inspections by a newly formed task force were also announced.
Adahrii Maheo presented the campaign’s progress, stating that nearly 70 tonnes of waste were collected during a mass cleanliness drive across an 8-km stretch earlier this year. He also highlighted the dismantling of 70 illegal structures during an eviction drive. The district has enforced a ban on single-use plastics in line with the Manipur Plastic Policy, 2022, and continues awareness campaigns.
Additionally, ADM Rang David Kung informed that an eviction drive along NH-02 would soon begin, urging communities to remove illegal structures. The meeting also featured a presentation on solid waste management by SDC Panii Ngaonii.
