Agartala, April 28, 2025: In the aftermath of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura Police have registered eight FIRs and arrested or detained eight individuals for allegedly posting derogatory and adverse comments on social media.
According to a senior police official, the FIRs were filed between April 24 and April 26 across various districts. Among those involved are a government official and two retired government teachers.
In the North District, Dharmanagar Police Station registered three FIRs. A retired teacher was arrested and later released on bail, while two others were summoned for questioning. Another FIR was lodged at Kadamtala Police Station against one Mansur Ali.
In Dhalai District, Ambassa Police arrested two individuals — Jaharlal Debnath and Kuldip Mandal — who remain in judicial custody until April 30. Meanwhile, Sonamura Police in Sepahijala District arrested Jahrul Islam, who was later released on bail, and Sabroom Police in South District booked Pranab Das.
“Several protests erupted across the state demanding strict action against the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack,” the senior officer said.
The official also revealed that efforts are ongoing to identify any Pakistani nationals residing in the state. “Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha recently directed district officials to investigate this matter during a meeting with District SPs and District Magistrates. So far, no Pakistani nationals have been found,” he added.
Security measures along Tripura’s international border with Bangladesh have also been intensified in response to the heightened threat perception.
