Agartala, April 28, 2025: Tension flared at Tripura’s Ballamukha border in Belonia under South district on Monday as Tipra Motha activists and supporters staged a massive protest against the construction of a dam by Bangladesh, alleging a violation of the International Boundary Delimitation Act.

It is reported that large numbers of Tipra Motha workers gathered at the north bank of Bankar, responding to calls for resistance against the ongoing construction. Security forces, including police and high-ranking BSF officials, rushed to the site after receiving information about the gathering. As the crowd attempted to move towards the Ballamukha border, a scuffle broke out with security personnel.

“The government of Bangladesh is constructing a dam in the Bilonia Ballamukha area, violating international norms. We demand the immediate resignation of Yunus for this blatant disregard of international boundaries,” said a Tipra Motha leader at the scene.

Former Tipra Motha Supreme and MDC Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarman also expressed his anger on social media. “Thousands of Tipra Motha workers were stopped by BSF in Belonia on Monday. Had it not been for this intervention, the illegal construction by Bangladesh could have been demolished by now,” he wrote. Issuing a strong warning, he added, “Only a green signal is needed for Tipra youth — we will handle the rest.”
