Agartala, April 28, 2025: Udaipur witnessed fresh turmoil on Monday morning as members of Hindu Jagaran Manch and Sanatani groups blocked the Netaji Subhash Bridge, demanding the immediate arrest of Javed Hossain. Hossain is accused of making derogatory remarks about Mata Tripura Sundari, a revered deity whose temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.
The outrage comes at a time when the nation is already grappling with anger over the terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which claimed several lives. Against this backdrop, local tensions flared after Javed Hossain allegedly posted objectionable comments on social media about the Mata Tripura Sundari temple. Hindu Jagaran Manch had lodged a written complaint at Radhakishore Pur police station on Saturday, demanding swift action. However, with no arrest made even after 48 hours, protesters took to blocking the main highway connecting Udaipur-Sabroom and Udaipur-Agartala from 10 AM.
“We will not tolerate any insult to our mother goddess. The administration must act against those who spread hate against our faith,” said a protester from Hindu Jagaran Manch while standing amidst heavy rain and stranded traffic.
The protest led to long queues of cars, bikes, and pedestrians stranded on both sides of the bridge. Responding to the situation, Udaipur SDM Tripdip Sarkar, Subdivisional Police Officer Nirman Das, Radhakishore Pur Police Station OC Babul Das, along with TSR and central forces, rushed to the scene to control the crowd.
Addressing the media, Udaipur SDM Tridip Sarkar assured, “The police are making every effort to arrest the accused. We will leave no stone unturned.”
Police officials reportedly gave a written assurance to the protesters that Javed Hossain would be apprehended within three months. Following this, the Hindu Jagaran Manch called off the blockade, restoring traffic movement on the national highway.
