The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) is set to organise a public convention on May 3 at 11:30 a.m. at Khuman Lampak, Imphal, to mark the second anniversary of the outbreak of conflict in Manipur.
According to COCOMI, the convention aims to deliberate on the ongoing crisis and adopt resolutions to restore peace and normalcy in the state. In preparation, the committee has conducted extensive public mobilisation campaigns across Manipur over the past month to raise awareness and gather public input on the path forward.
Addressing the media at the organisation’s headquarters, COCOMI convenor Khuraijam Athouba criticised the Indian government for its inaction, stating that the conflict is now entering its third year without resolution. He said the convention would bring together scholars, community leaders, and civil society representatives to forge a unified approach to ending the crisis.
“The people of Manipur have suffered for too long. This convention is a platform to voice our collective concerns and to present constructive demands to the Government of India,” Athouba said.
COCOMI has appealed to the public to participate in large numbers and called on citizens to abstain from regular activities on May 3 as a show of solidarity. The committee emphasised that the decisions made at the convention would reflect the people’s will and serve as a roadmap toward lasting peace.
With all necessary arrangements in place, COCOMI reiterated its commitment to democratic and peaceful processes as Manipur prepares to mark two years since violence first erupted on May 3, 2023.
