Imphal, May 1: Milky Meinam of Manipur bagged a gold medal for India at the Asian U-15 and U-17 Boxing Championships 2025 held in Amman, Jordan, as India topped the U-15 category with a total of 25 medals.
Competing in the U-15 girls’ 43 kg category, Milky defeated Alimkhanova Raykhona of Uzbekistan to clinch the top podium spot. Kh Rudraksh, also from Manipur, secured a silver medal in the U-15 boys’ 46 kg event.
Three more boxers from the state earned bronze medals: S Linthoi in the U-15 girls’ 49 kg, Khwairakpam Nelson in the U-15 boys’ 55 kg, and L Ambedkar in the U-17 boys’ 48 kg category. L Radhamani represented India in the U-17 girls’ 57 kg division.
The Indian contingent was led by head coach O Gita Chanu for the U-17 squad and L Radia for the U-15 team.
The National Sports Academy (NSA), Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, congratulated its medal-winning students – M Milky, Kh Nelson, and L Ambedkar – for their achievements. Milky, daughter of Meinam Dhamen and M Yaima Leima of Thamnapokpi, and Nelson, son of Heikham Manitombi of Khurkhul, are Class VIII students. Ambedkar, son of L Madan and L Babita Leima of Lamlai Makha Leikai, is in Class X.
The athletes were trained under coaches Moirangthem Shyamchandra and Thokchom Jiten, the NSA stated.
