Kohima, May 1: The Assam Rifles provided crucial support for the 20th Foundation Day of ‘Friends of 80 Plus’, held at T. Khel Community Hall in Kohima Village on April 30. The event, which honours senior citizens aged 80 and above, was attended by local community members, well-wishers, and volunteers, with the Assam Rifles offering logistical and material assistance to ensure its success.
The celebration paid tribute to the village’s eldest residents, recognising their invaluable contributions to society. Tepul Hepovi, President of the Southern Angami Public Organization, was the chief guest at the event. He highlighted the importance of the elderly as the foundation of the community and urged them to share their life experiences with younger generations, emphasising the significance of wisdom alongside formal education.
Currently, 228 members from Kohima Village are aged 80 years and above, including 81 males and 147 females. The event underscored the community’s commitment to honouring and supporting its senior citizens.
