Shillong, May 2: The Meghalaya Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, has decided to implement a vehicle scrappage policy to address the growing issue of air pollution in the state.
Government spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh, speaking after the cabinet meeting, revealed that the policy will target old, dilapidated vehicles that are no longer roadworthy. Under the new policy, around 13,000 vehicles are expected to be removed from the roads, including 5,000 government vehicles and 8,000 privately owned vehicles.
