Agartala, May 03, 2025: Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested three individuals including two Indian touts and a Bangladeshi woman for facilitating illegal infiltration into Tripura and attempting to smuggle the foreign national out of the state. A specific case has been registered against the accused, and they are set to be produced in court today.
Speaking to the media, GRP Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das said, “We had received confidential information that Bangladeshi nationals were planning to leave the state through brokers via Agartala railway station. Acting on this tip-off, we conducted a raid and detained three individuals who, upon interrogation, confessed to illegally entering the state.”
The accused were reportedly preparing to board a train to Bangalore when they were apprehended. Those arrested include Krishna Debnath, a resident of Sabroom police station area, Tuton De of Rajnagar and a Bangladeshi woman, whose identity has not been disclosed by authorities.
The arrest highlights a recurring problem in Tripura, where Bangladeshi infiltration has become a daily issue despite the presence of a barbed wire fence and strict vigilance by the Border Security Force (BSF). According to local sources, touts often help foreign nationals cross the border illegally in exchange for money.
“We are treating this as a serious case of illegal border crossing and human trafficking. We will continue our efforts to dismantle such networks operating in the region,” added Tapas Das.
The investigation is ongoing to identify other members involved in the racket.
