The Manipur Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with an alleged “gun salute” incident that took place in the Saikul area of Kangpokpi district.
According to police sources, the gun salute was reportedly carried out by a group of individuals in memory of those who lost their lives during the ethnic violence that erupted in the state two years ago.
On Saturday, both Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities marked the second anniversary of the conflict by organising various commemorative events.
In an official statement, the police said that local leaders and elders had been summoned to the police station for questioning related to the incident. Raids have also been conducted in different areas to apprehend those involved in the unauthorised act.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order in the region and ensuring that any activities threatening public peace will be dealt with strictly.
