In a continued effort to clamp down on illegal and extortion activities, security forces in Manipur have been conducting extensive intelligence-based combing and cordon-and-search operations across the state. These efforts led to the arrest of three active cadres belonging to proscribed outfits over the weekend.
On Sunday, two individuals affiliated with the banned militant groups KCP (PWG) and KYKL (SOREPA) were apprehended from Mayang Imphal Heigum Yangbi under Mayang Imphal Police Station, Imphal West District. The arrested individuals have been identified as Longjam Bishochandra Meitei alias Bungo (37) of Mayang Imphal Heigum Yangbi, associated with KCP (PWG), and Chirom Roshan Meitei alias Thomas (37) of Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai, linked to KYKL (SOREPA). Two mobile phones were recovered from their possession.
Earlier on Saturday, May 3, an active cadre of KCP (Apunba), identified as Lairenlakpam Dineshchandra Singh (30) of Thoubal Wangkhem Mamang Leikai in Thoubal District, was arrested from the Yairipok Laimanai area under Andro Police Station, Imphal East District. He was reportedly directly involved in extortion activities. Items seized from his possession include a 9mm pistol with a magazine, five live rounds, a mobile phone, a wallet, and several identity documents including a PAN card, driving license, Aadhaar card, ATM card, and voter ID card.
Security forces have reiterated their commitment to continue the crackdown against individuals and groups involved in unlawful activities across the state.
