Shillong, May 5 : The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier detained five Bangladeshi nationals for attempting to illegally cross into India, officials said on Sunday.

On Saturday, BSF troops, acting on specific intelligence, successfully intercepted and apprehended the five individuals attempting to enter India along the international border. The operation was part of BSF Meghalaya’s continued efforts to curb illegal infiltration and other cross-border crimes.

In one of the operations, two Bangladeshi nationals from Sunamganj District were arrested in the East Khasi Hills district. The duo revealed that they had crossed the border in search of employment in India. They were handed over to Dangar Police Station for further legal action.

In another operation, three Bangladeshi nationals from Pabna, Sherpur, and Kishoreganj districts were arrested after being detected by vigilant BSF personnel of the 50th Battalion. The trio, who had been working as tailors in a garment factory in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, were handed over to Mahendraganj Police Station in West Garo Hills for further proceedings.

These successful operations demonstrate BSF Meghalaya’s ongoing commitment to securing the border and preventing illegal activities such as infiltration and smuggling.
