BJP Northeast in-charge and Member of Parliament Dr. Sambit Patra arrived at Imphal Airport today for a crucial visit to Manipur, amid growing calls within the state unit for a change in leadership.
Sambit Patra is expected to hold a key meeting with BJP legislators from Manipur, following a recent appeal by 21 party MLAs to the central leadership in New Delhi to consider forming a new BJP-led government in the state.
According to sources, Patra’s visit aims to engage legislators once again on the possibility of establishing a new government under fresh leadership. His trip comes against the backdrop of prolonged political uncertainty in Manipur, which has been under President’s Rule since February 13, 2025, after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned on February 9.
Despite mounting pressure from within the state unit, BJP’s central leadership remains cautious, citing the fragile situation in Manipur since ethnic violence erupted on May 3, 2023.
