Agartala, May 05, 2025: Tripura’s CPIM Politburo member and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Sunday raised serious concerns over the alarming shortage of manpower in government departments alleging that over 51,000 posts are currently lying vacant across the state.

Citing information shared by state ministers during the last Assembly session, Chaudhury in a video message asserted, “These figures are not speculative. In response to our MLAs’ queries, ministers disclosed data revealing that more than 51,000 posts remain unfilled across various departments. Shockingly, this figure excludes data from nearly 18 to 19 departments, which are yet to be accounted for.”

Highlighting the depth of the crisis, he added, “All major departments are reeling under a severe staff crunch, especially the Education department, where over 20,000 teacher positions are lying vacant.”

Taking a swipe at the ruling BJP government, Chaudhury described recent employment distribution events as symbolic and insufficient. “These so-called job fairs are just a few drops of water in a desert. Instead of addressing the crisis, the ruling party keeps blaming the previous Left Front government for job-related corruption,” he said.

He also raised questions about irregularities in recruitment, stating, “How did non-residents from West Bengal secure Group D jobs in Tripura? The government must answer.”

Referring to a recent controversy, Chaudhury said, “A BJP Nagar Panchayat member was recently seen joining the jail police force in a viral video. No one knows when the interview happened. This clearly shows the scale of recruitment irregularities under the current regime.”

Chaudhury’s allegations have intensified the political heat in Tripura, as calls grow louder for transparency and urgent filling of vacant posts in government departments.
