In a major crackdown on insurgent activities, Manipur Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of eleven individuals linked to various banned outfits during multiple operations conducted across Imphal East, Kakching, and Thoubal districts on Monday.
According to a senior police officer, four cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) were apprehended from Mantripukhri French Colony in Imphal East. They were allegedly involved in threatening the public by planting hand grenades at various locations in the valley. Two pistols, magazines, and ammunition were recovered from their possession.
In a separate operation, three more active members of the same outfit were arrested from Keirao Wangkhem and nearby areas in Imphal East. Security personnel seized five firearms, additional ammunition, and a wireless communication device from them.
Another arrest in the district involved a member of the banned People’s Liberation Army, who was detained at Sawombung Kabui Khunjao for his alleged role in extortion. Police recovered two pistols, a hand grenade, and a detonator from his possession.
In Thoubal district, two active cadres of the proscribed KCP (Apunba) were arrested from an abandoned house in Wangjing Awang Leikai. They were reportedly involved in extortion activities.
Additionally, one cadre of the banned KCP (Taibanganba) faction was arrested from Angang Ching crossing in Kakching district.
Security forces have been intensifying search operations across the state amid continued efforts to curb insurgency, especially since ethnic violence erupted two years ago.
