The Manipur Police have arrested a second accused in connection with the ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual assault at the Mangal Football Academy in Khabam Lamkhai, Imphal East.

The latest arrest, made on May 5, involves 28-year-old Khangembam Shitaljit Meitei, a resident of Heingang Panthoibi Leikai in Imphal East district. His detention follows the earlier arrest of the primary accused on April 4, 2025.

According to police sources, the arrested individuals are accused of sexually assaulting at least 11 minor girls who were undergoing football training at the academy. The survivors were allegedly subjected to prolonged abuse during their time at the institution.

Authorities have registered a case and launched a comprehensive investigation. Due to the sensitivity of the matter and the ongoing inquiry, officials have withheld further information.

The case has sparked growing public concern over the safety and protection of young athletes in sports training facilities across the state.
