Agartala, May 06, 2025: The Tripura government’s recent directive to organize workshops on “cow husbandry” in schools, instead of focusing on core educational needs, has sparked statewide debate. The move by the School Education Department has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition, with CPI(M) Politburo member and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury questioning the government’s priorities.
“Where is Tripura going?” Chaudhury asked, voicing the growing concern among educators and parents alike. He strongly criticized the government’s decision, pointing out that most government schools in the state are already grappling with a severe shortage of teachers.
“Our students are being deprived of quality education due to the acute lack of teachers. This has been clearly reflected in the poor results of the recent CBSE examinations. Instead of addressing this alarming issue, the state is now focusing on promoting cow husbandry among students,” Chaudhury said.
Chaudhury alleged that the workshops are being organized in collaboration with an organization named Desi Govansh Rakshana Sambardhan Samiti, which, according to him, is a branch of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). “Even the name of the organization makes it evident. This is a deliberate attempt to introduce RSS ideology to children through the backdoor,” he claimed.
He further added, “This is not education. This is organized brainwashing. The government is trying to misuse the sacred environment of schools to propagate a saffron agenda.”
Questioning the relevance of such workshops in a state struggling with foundational educational challenges, Chaudhury stated, “Is cow husbandry the future we envision for our children? This is nothing but a betrayal of their right to education.”
