Guwahati, May 7: The Assam Cabinet has extended its gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving a greenfield high-speed corridor connecting Mawlyngkhung in Meghalaya to Panchgram in Assam. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the development during a press conference held on Tuesday.
The corridor, estimated to cost Rs 22,864 crore, will span 166.80 km of which 144.80 km will be in Meghalaya and 22 km in Assam’s Cachar district.
Sarma said the corridor will significantly reduce travel time between Guwahati and Silchar, the headquarters of Cachar district, bringing it down to approximately five hours.
