Agartala, May 07, 2025: In coordination with a nationwide initiative, a civil defense mock drill was held simultaneously in eight districts of Tripura at 3:30 PM today with the central exercise conducted at Umakanta Academy School in Agartala. Sirens were notably sounded near the residence of the Chief Minister as part of the drill, creating an alert atmosphere across the city.

To facilitate the exercise, electricity services in Agartala city were temporarily suspended from 5:30 PM to 5:40 PM. This was done following administrative orders and in public interest, as informed by Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited.

“The mock drill is aimed at testing the state’s preparedness and inter-agency coordination in the event of enemy attacks, or natural and man-made disasters. We are focusing on evaluating the effectiveness of alert systems, evacuation protocols, emergency rescue, and the swift restoration of essential services,” said Dr. Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate of West Tripura told reporters in Agartala city on Wednesday afternoon.

The simulation was led by the Disaster Management Authority and the Civil Defence Corps of each district, supported by police, fire services, medical teams, and other emergency responders. Key participants in today’s drill included the NCC, Tripura State Rifles, Home Guards, ‘Apda Mitra’ volunteers, and Tripura Fire and Emergency Service.

Dr. Kumar further explained, “The exercise is being conducted in two phases, with sirens sounding at 4:00 PM and again at 5:30 PM. We urge the public not to panic and to fully cooperate with the administration.”

He emphasized that such drills are crucial in strengthening the disaster response mechanism of the state and ensuring the safety of its citizens in real emergency scenarios.
