Assam Rifles marked World Athletics Day today with a vibrant series of sporting events across Tamenglong and Noney districts in Manipur, aimed at promoting fitness, unity, and youth engagement.
The celebrations featured friendly volleyball matches in Tamei village (Tamenglong) and Taobam village (Noney), as well as an athletics meet in Azuram village, Tamenglong. The events saw enthusiastic participation, with around 50 youth from Tamei, 30 from Taobam, and 70 villagers—including women, youth, and children—from Azuram and five nearby villages joining the festivities.
Highlights of the athletics competition included 100m, 200m, and 400m sprint races, along with a high jump event, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere for all.
Local residents expressed their appreciation for Assam Rifles’ sustained efforts in community outreach through sports and development programs. Such initiatives continue to foster goodwill, trust, and stronger ties between the security forces and the local communities of Manipur.
