Agartala, May 07, 2025: The Government of Tripura will conduct a statewide Civil Defence Mock Drill across all eight districts on Wednesday, May 7 at 3:30 PM as part of a comprehensive disaster preparedness initiative.

Addressing a press conference in Agartala on Tuesday afternoon, Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey announced that the mock drill is being organized under the guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. “This exercise aims to evaluate the readiness and coordination among various civil defence units and emergency response agencies during hostile attacks and disaster situations,” he said.

Pandey noted that the Civil Defence mechanism in India, established under the Civil Defence Act, 1968, plays a vital role in safeguarding lives and property during crises. The upcoming drill will involve District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs), District Civil Defence Corps, and multiple emergency service stakeholders.

Key aspects of the drill will include testing alert systems, conducting evacuation and rescue operations, providing medical assistance, and restoring essential services. “Trained Civil Defence Volunteers across the state will actively take part in the operation. These volunteers serve as the frontline responders during any crisis,” he added.

The drill will also focus on the dissemination of air raid warnings, fire-fighting demonstrations, and first-aid response.

Also present at the press conference, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar informed that in Agartala, the drill will take place at Umakanta School, featuring participation from the NCC, TSR, Home Guards, Apada Mitra, medical units, and the Tripura Fire and Emergency Services.

“The mock exercise will begin at 3:30 PM and continue till 6:30 PM. Sirens will be sounded at 4:00 PM and again at 5:30 PM,” said Dr. Kumar.
