Agartala, May 07, 2025: A horrifying incident has been reported at Assam’s Prerona Girls PG in Nihar Enclave, Arunudoi Path, Christian Basti located near Dispur Police Station where a woman was killed and her daughter critically injured in a stabbing on late Monday night.

The accused identified as 20-year-old Abhimanyu Debnath from West Tripura district allegedly forced his way into the premises and attacked Priyanjali Das Chaudhury, reportedly following a dispute stemming from a romantic relationship between the two.

Speaking exclusively with Northeast Today, DCP (East) of Assam, Mrinal Deka said “Suparna Das Chaudhury, the PG owner and mother of Priyanjali, intervened in an attempt to protect her daughter. In the ensuing struggle, she was fatally stabbed by the attacker. However, Suparna is believed to have retaliated and injured Debnath with a knife before succumbing to her injuries at the scene.”

“Priyanjali also sustained multiple stab wounds during the assault. Both she and the accused were rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where they are currently receiving treatment. Debnath remains under police custody at the hospital”, he added.

Dispur Police responded swiftly, apprehending the accused and recovering the weapon used in the crime. Teams from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have since arrived at the scene to collect evidence and assist in the investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate the attack was motivated by personal issues related to Debnath’s relationship with the victim’s daughter. Further investigations are underway.
